WHO:                   Xander Smith (

Singer/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist, Xander Smith has been writing, recording and playing music in his native LA for over two decades. He has fronted his own indie rock band, Run Run Run, releasing several records featured on KROQ and KCRW.  As a sideman he has worked with such iconic artists as Linda Perry, Rickie Lee Jones, Steve Perry, Lisa Loeb, The Runaways, Adam Lambert, Dee Dee Ramone, and The Nymphs. In 2012 Smith began performing as a solo artist, mixing modern indie folk with his love for the 1970’s Big Sur sound. He has produced two albums, a single/video for his song “Say Anything” which features singer Bernard Sumner (New Order) and has toured the globe with nothing but a suitcase and a Gibson J-45.  Today, Smith has just recorded his latest single - a bittersweet version of INXS’ “Don’t change” - and looks forward to getting back on stage in 2015.

WHY:                    The Midnight hosts Music With a Mission (MWAM) to entertain and inspire those living on Skid Row. Music is a survival tactic for many people in dealing with life’s difficulties.  MWAM is aimed at bringing our community together through music.  MWAM is quite simple.  Musicians bring their instruments and play for our homeless and near-homeless guests.  It is an intimate setting, so musicians have the opportunity to interact with our guests, answer questions and/or talk about music and its history. We encourage musicians to invite their fan base so they can engage and enjoy music with individuals they would not normally encounter in their daily lives. We are currently looking for sponsors for this ever-growing community event.  If you are interested, please contact Georgia Berkovich at 213-624-4588
